The look of the stick isn't quite as sleek as last year's Namco TV Games the "octagonal" shape and light blue coloration make it appear like something out of a Playskool catalog instead of a retro throwback design. The fact that the joystick, again, lacks any two-player mode and high score save is really the only downside to an otherwise outstanding toy. ![]() But the documentation doesn't explain this control well, and the joystick really hides its "twistibility" well, so many owners might feel they've got a defective controller since pushing left and right on the joystick won't make the car steer. To drive the car in Pole Position, players simply "twist" the spring-loaded stick clockwise or counterclockwise, making this conversion the best controlling Pole Position outside of the arcade. It's hard to believe, but the joystick actually contains an excellent, but well disguised feature: spring-loaded analog rotation. I do fear that Jakks Pacific will be fielding a ton of consumer related phone calls because of the conversion of Pole Position. And Xevious is one of the original vertical scrolling shooters that still offers a ton of challenge, and the conversion is near spot-on perfect to the arcade edition. Galaga is a far superior sequel to Galaxian, released on last year's stick the action is much quicker paced with a cool "sacrifice ship" element to gain additional firepower. Mappy, for example, is a unique run-and-jump platformer that borrows elements from Pac-Man for its own game design. Pac-Man did, but they're all excellent games with their own level of challenge. The other four games never quite made the status that Ms. But it's nothing that a little time and practice can't fix. The main issue: because the game uses an eight-way controller rather than the original's four-directional, the diagonals can wreak a little havoc on precise control over the dot-muncher. Under a microscope, though, there are a handful of issues. It looks, sounds, and plays darn near perfectly, right down to the several different mazes, bouncing fruit, and animated intermissions between levels. Pac-Man as closely as is possible without the actual arcade hardware. The development team took the criticisms to heart and reproduced Ms. The conversion of Pac-Man in last year's Namco TV Games looked the part and played similarly, but there were several behavioral elements that stuck out like a sore thumb. Pac-Man is the obvious headliner here, and the conversion is, other than a few purist nitpicks, a spot-on match to the arcade game. Pac-Man without the need of a home console is plenty enough for the price of the stick the rest is gaming gravy. The fact that you're getting a brilliant arcade conversion of Ms. This is, without a doubt, the must-have gaming treat for 2004. Pac-Man joystick proves this fact with five wonderfully playable arcade conversions that plug directly into any TV with video and audio inputs. Polygons be damned, the pixelated 8-bit graphics can still house some excellent gameplay, and the Ms. ![]() ![]() If we're lucky, the tech giant will reveal a stacked slate of upcoming games for the popular gaming subscription service to make up for the delays.Just a warning so you can get a jump on the holiday shopping: the sequel has been released.
